Canadian, Oklahoma

Arrowhead area at Lake Eufaula state park

We lived in Oklahoma right after Krista got out of college, and every now and then we revisit Oklahoma because Krista’s parents still live there. Some of our favorite things to do in Oklahoma include going to Frontier City, visiting state parks and exploring the Tulsa area (one year I went on a roadside attractions tour in Tulsa, which was really interesting since Route 66 cuts through Oklahoma)!

Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

Ray Harral Nature center & Park

While we were in Broken Arrow, OK we found the Ray Harral Nature Center and hiking trails. We decided to go for a family hike and explore the area.

For this hike, we kept our kids interested in the hike with 2 parenting tips.

  1. If they were able to make it through the hike, we would take them to see a movie later on that night. Watch the video to see if it worked.

  2. We told the kids to create a nature collection while we were in the hike. Amelia found some really neat things.

Bluff Landing public access area

Also while we were in Broken Arrow, we went to Bluff Landing which is a public use access area to do some fishing.

The kids got their new Frozen fishing poles and we went down to the docks to see if Jacques and Amelia could catch their first fish.

3 Free Things to do IN Tulsa, Okalhoma

We have found 3 free things to do in Tulsa, Oklahoma with kids. We also went to two delicious restaurants that Grammy and Grumps brought us to.

The 3 free things that we found are the Mary K. Oxley Nature Center, which has an awesome beehive display. Then Grumps took us to the Port of Catoosa because there is a tugboat there that you can explore called the Charley Border. There’s also a museum there, but it was closed. The third free thing to do in Tulsa is Woodward Park, which is a huge park with lots of friendly squirrels, so bring some nuts.

The two restaurants that we ate at for lunches were El Puerto, a local mexican restaurant, and Amelia, our daughter, has been into tea parties lately, so we went to the Dragon Moon Tea Co. and had high tea.

Tulsa Children’s Museum

If you are in the Tulsa, OK area on a rainy day with kids, I can HIGHLY recommend the Tulsa Children’s Museum Discover Labs. First of all it’s only $6 to get in, and it has a HUGE TAPE SLIDE! It’s an entire slide made out of packing tape.

They also have a ton of other hands on areas to build with gears, build with blocks, play with pipes, make art, and so much more. JUST GO!

Natural Falls state park

On our way to Arkansas, we stopped at Natural Falls State Park in Dripping Springs, Oklahoma to see if we could find some waterfalls and to go for a family hike to help break up our drive. We found some beautiful waterfalls and a little rock bridge that we walked over. We also had a nice picnic together and had some fun afterwards before continuing to Arkansas!
